What’s The Best Machine To Make A Flat White At Home?

Since we started this site, way back in the summer of 2015, things have changed a lot here in the UK and the wider world. As we’re writing this in April 2020, a good chunk of the global population are staying at home due to the spread of the Coronavirus, which means many of us are forgoing our Starbucks fix and putting up with drinking coffee at home instead. Now, one of the upsides to living in a time like this is we can get our coffee fix to a high standard with a home bean to cup machine, and even get our hands on Starbucks coffee beans to get the same taste too.

Now, it got us thinking back to when we started out, and how things have changed. Reading the early pages on the site and looking at the kids of things we were asked, back in 2015, there wasn’t a huge amount other than cappuccinos that we got questioned on, but a big trend recently relates to flat whites, so we thought that it would be a good subject to tackle today.

In fact, even McDonalds recently (ish) got in on the act, with their advert mocking the café culture’s tendency to over charge and be rather, well, pretentious about the flat white boom. In case it’s passed you by, here it is:

De'Longhi Eletta, Fully Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Machine, Cappuccino and Espresso Maker, ECAM 44.660.B, 2 liters, Black As they so simply explain, your flat white is nothing more (or less) than a latte with a bit less milk, meaning that the coffee is less diluted and therefore a bit stronger.

Right now, you can’t get a McCafé flat white thanks to the lock-down, but you can make your own with an automated program on the Delonghi Eletta range. You just need to fill the milk tank and choose the option on the menu, and it’ll do the rest in under two minutes. It also makes a mean cappuccino or latte too if you’re still stuck in 2015 like me, and a great long black coffee too. Luckily, Amazon are still delivering, and you can check out the machine and the current price here:

Stay home where you can and stay safe, everyone!

About Chris Marshall

I'm a coffee enthusiast that got my first bean to cup machine in 2015. Since then I've played with a lot of them while writing for this website.

While a lot of coffee nerds scoff at my choice, I'm a big fan of Delonghi's machines and have an Eletta in my kitchen at home.
