Andrew James make a wide range of products, mainly focused around the kitchen. Having said that, they also make other lines too, including automatic pet feeders, lighting and garden tools. Of course, here we will be focusing on the coffee machines they manufacture, and how they use price as their separating factor to sell a lot of products.
Andrew James coffee makers are of course less advanced than many of the others that we’ve looked at on this site, but that’s hardly surprising given that the price tag is typically less than 10% of the most expensive alternatives.
Our Andrew James Coffee Machine Reviews
In our top ten bean to cup coffee machines of 2016, the Andrew James Premium Programmable Chrome Filter Coffee Maker With Integrated Bean Grinder took the number three spot, right below Heston Blumenthal’s flagship Dual Boiler. These two couldn’t be more different, Andrew James opting for a low budget maker featuring essential controls, and Heston going for all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a machine priced over a thousand pounds.
Notably, the Andrew James coffee machines are more sturdy than you might think, and there’s plenty of more expensive brands that feel more delicate or flimsy to to their plastic construction. While you can tell the machines in this range are not going to blow you away just by looking at them, they certainly don’t look cheap either. It’s highly likely that plenty of customers will be drawn to them due to the combination of low price and their ability to make a good cup of coffee. There are undoubtedly better machines that can make better coffee elsewhere on this site, but that’s not the target market for these machines. These bring the bean to cup experience to the mass market, at a price that’s accessible to most homes across the UK.
For a company like Andrew James, this could be a great introduction to the quality you can expect from a huge range of products, and that’s probably their marketing plan, as their entire range are competitively priced to appeal to customers that are price conscious. If you fall into that category of buyers, you’ll probably find yourself able to take advantage of many types of appliance that you’d usually consider out of your price range.
In summary, the Andrew James brand provides solid quality products which provide many of the features that more expensive alternatives offer, but for a very competitive price.
The Premium Chrome is a very impressive machine for the price, and quite frankly will give everyone who knows about it a tough decision to make. In short, there’s no excuse not to go for a bean to cup machine if you’ve ever wanted one but didn’t think you could afford it, since price should no longer be an obstacle.
Having said that, if you can afford a better machine, this won’t set the world alight for anyone who wants to get a great cup of coffee, in the way a mid range or higher machine will. This is really designed and built for beginners who want to make coffee from beans, or can’t afford to step up to the better models just yet. On the other hand, if funds are tight and yo like an espresso, you’re much better off with this than with instant granules!
